Summer Inspiration

It’s been an inspiring summer for us! This July we were pleased to welcome back our talented international team to re-launch our counter trafficking show. This time it featured as part of Cambridge Centre of Applied Research in Human Trafficking’s summer symposium. The show was called Just Sex, looking at trafficking for sexual exploitation, especially in the UK and Europe.

Important discussion following the show raised the question: what are we doing about user demand in this culture? Field researchers from the post show panel, experts from the CCARHT symposium, confirmed the crisis, and provided crucial on-the-ground insights into the problem. After the discussion audience members reported, “I’ve never thought of it like this before; this show has really changed my mind!”

Following this the team headed across the channel, to Paris! There Infusion participated in the Project Dance, an international foundation presenting dance for healing in the face of a tragedy-strewn world. We presented Just Sex at a charity fundraiser for Saving Zoë, an organization against child abuse. Following this the team participated in the all-day, open-air, dance concert in the Place de la Republique, dancing inspirational pieces for people on the streets of Paris—even local protests were cancelled as the open plaza was bathed waves of beauty and artistry from the diverse works of contributing artists!

Following this Infusion’s Dan Cossette taught as a company member for Springs Dance Company for their London Summer Course. The week culminated with the students presenting a new work, designed that week, and presented before the company took the stage to present the landmark final performance of the beautiful show Bread of Life. Dan will miss playing a role in that wonderful production!

Lastly Daniel and Melanie Cossette flew to Switzerland to teach physical theatre as faculty at the Ad Deum Summer Dance and Physical Theatre Intensive in Biel/Bienne. It was a week of inspiration and creativity, working alongside the incredible artists of Ad Deum, both sharing classes, and creating mimeography on students over the 7-day intensive: appropriately named intense!
