Summer Inspiration

It’s been an inspiring summer for us! This July we were pleased to welcome back our talented international team to re-launch our counter trafficking show. This time it featured as part of Cambridge Centre of Applied Research in Human Trafficking’s summer symposium. The show was called Just Sex, looking at trafficking for sexual exploitation, especially in the UK and Europe.

Important discussion following the show raised the question: what are we doing about user demand in this culture? Field researchers from the post show panel, experts from the CCARHT symposium, confirmed the crisis, and provided crucial on-the-ground insights into the problem. After the discussion audience members reported, “I’ve never thought of it like this before; this show has really changed my mind!”

Following this the team headed across the channel, to Paris! There Infusion participated in the Project Dance, an international foundation presenting dance for healing in the face of a tragedy-strewn world. We presented Just Sex at a charity fundraiser for Saving Zoë, an organization against child abuse. Following this the team participated in the all-day, open-air, dance concert in the Place de la Republique, dancing inspirational pieces for people on the streets of Paris—even local protests were cancelled as the open plaza was bathed waves of beauty and artistry from the diverse works of contributing artists!

Following this Infusion’s Dan Cossette taught as a company member for Springs Dance Company for their London Summer Course. The week culminated with the students presenting a new work, designed that week, and presented before the company took the stage to present the landmark final performance of the beautiful show Bread of Life. Dan will miss playing a role in that wonderful production!

Lastly Daniel and Melanie Cossette flew to Switzerland to teach physical theatre as faculty at the Ad Deum Summer Dance and Physical Theatre Intensive in Biel/Bienne. It was a week of inspiration and creativity, working alongside the incredible artists of Ad Deum, both sharing classes, and creating mimeography on students over the 7-day intensive: appropriately named intense!

Find an awesome video recap of the intensive here!

Project Dance Paris, a third year…

Under the statue of the People, a.m. before the show…

The Project Dance Foundation has been offering free dance festivals in the open squares of major cities around the world, dancing for hope, inspiration, and healing, since they started in New York City after the terror attacks on 9/11. Infusion was pleased to participate a third time at their Paris event, in the memorable Place de la Republiqué!

People stood or sat for hours, watching. Speaking with members of the festival staff and dancers, many people made it clear that the event meant much more to them than just a bit of diversion; it was life changing!

July 21-23, Infusion returns to the Capitol of Love with the Project Dance Foundation to bring hope and inspiration through offerings of dance and physical theatre. With special performances Friday; outdoor, all-day, free dance show in the Place de la Republique, Saturday; and master class offerings on Sunday for registrants, Project Dance Paris promises to be a weekend of artistic excellence and generosity.

This year’s free, open-air performance will be in the Place de la Republique Saturday July 22nd.

The previous year’s event came on the heels of the multiple terror attacks in France, and dancers were able to share, both from the stage, and personally with members of the public–representing many faiths and backgrounds–about hope, healing, and freedom through Jesus Christ.  One Parisian noted, “In this place, normally all you hear is people protesting. Today, everyone is so joyful–it’s a powerful statement!”

The Project Dance Foundation was founded by Radio City Rockette Cheryl Cutlip to bring dance to the people on the streets of NYC after the tragic evens of September 11th, 2001. Professionals, students and young people offered their art free of charge for an all-day, outdoor dance performance in the legendary Times Square. Since that year, Project Dance has expanded to have events in major cities around the world, including London, Hong Kong, Sydney, Manila, LA, Houston, Atlanta and many others.

City of Peel, Isle of Man

All this following a wonderful tour on the picturesque Isle of Man, were we toured five schools in five days. We performed Peter and the Wolf Shadows, and then discussed the science of light and shadow, and did workshops with the children on shadow storytelling. There was no shortage of volunteers, and everybody got a chance to experiment with shadow making. The children loved to see their classmates on the 2.5m x 2m projection screen, and they laughed and laughed whenever we taught them how to magnify a shadow to gigantic size! Good fun!

Infusion plans to perform next at Project Dance London at the Scoop 19th July in the FREE, general graphicall-day, outdoor dance concert. The Scoop is an open air amphitheater on the south bank of the Thames near Tower Bridge (London Bridge Tube station). Starting at 11am, and going until 5pm, don’t miss a chance to see dance artists from all over the world, and from right here in England, performing for London absolutely free! The Project Dance ethos? To bless and inspire the city, by artists using their gifts to provide hope, healing, and inspiration at no cost to the passersby. You’ll see infusion there, as well as a number of our friends, including E33 Dance Company, Springs Dance Company, and special guests Ad Deum Dance Company all the way from Houston, Texas.
